Kasteli

Kasteli is situated 41 km west of Chania, Crete.
Kasteli remains till now days a commercial centre, while its port is connected with Githeio in Peloponnese. People occupy with agricultural activity.
Situated in a very fertile plain with vineyards and olive trees, it still keeps its ancient name, as officially it is called Kissamos. It is mostly known as Kasteli due to the castle constructed by the Venetians is still standing there.
Kasteli has hospitable people that maintain the tradition.
However you can find everything a big city has: schools, shops, taverns, restaurants, new modern or old traditional homes, banks, medical centre, hotels, bars, cafes etc.

There is also regular public bus transportation every hour from Chania to Kasteli Kissamou the capital of the county, and Kolibari.
There are many organized excursions to the area, offered by almost all the travel agents, since this area is considered to be one of the prettiest of Crete.
The road network is fairly good and the trip by private means is recommended (car or bike), starting from Kaloudiana near Kasteli or from Platanos at the western coast where one can enjoy the imposing view of the coastline.
