Almyrida
Almyrida is a resort located in the Apokoronas region of the northwest coast of the island of Crete, Greece. The village is approximately 20 kilometres east of Chania. Traditionally a fishing village Almyrida has a long lovely sandy beach. Wind surfers, kayaks, paddle boats and beach chairs can be rented on the beach. There are many hotels, rental rooms, taverns, bars, snack and cafe bars, gift shops, grocery stores and bakeries, all of which are open late into the night in the tourist season. Many traditional homes, modern homes, villas, built by foreigners as permanent home or summer home. Almyrida is a known resort for locals too.
Almyrida is famous for its delicious food, the hospitable people as well as for the shallow waters, ideal for children.
One more interesting thing about the place is that people from 35 different nationalities live there all year round in a sum of population of about 400 residents, local Cretans included.
Almirida also has numerous Wi-Fi spots, as the multicultural crowd created the need for communication with the rest of the world.
Almyrida had applied for the Guinness Book of Records as the most multi-ethnic village on planet Earth.
